I was cheering for Randy - colour me surprised!
No brainer that Mysterio would win over Punk, and that Trips would win over Sheamus. I like that Jericho won by cheating, and that spear by Edge off the announce tables was sick! That feud's got real legs, let's keep that going!
Cena vs Batista had me worried, because they don't call him "Botch-tista" for nothing. Good on John for picking up the win and the strap, and I loved how he made a beeline for the group wearing the "We hate Cena" t-shirts after the match - gotta love a man who can poke fun at himself!
They tortured me (all of us, really) by putting 'Taker vs Shawn last but I understand why. It should have been the headline match last year - instead, after the emotion, we all found ourselves going "Oh yeah, there's more matches, isn't there?"
Besides, who in their right minds would want to follow that match?
I hoped 'Taker's Streak would remain intact, but I didn't know for sure. And I had to keep reminding myself to breathe. When 'Taker appeared in a new coat, I had flashbacks to the dream I had just before I woke up, that had 'Taker appearing for the match in a new costume (it was a fur coat, over leather pants and an open shirt, for the record).
Great match, from two great great workers - the guys in the back could still learn from them. But oh my God, at the end, after the Tombstone, when Shawn kicked out, and 'Taker got up, stripping down his singlet, looking down at Shawn . . . hell, you could see the thought process. "I don't want to do this."
And he was exhorting Shawn to stay down, and Shawn got up, slowly, painfully, clutching at 'Taker's tights (and very nearly disrobing him in the ring, and no, I don't know where they get the idea there's homoeroticism in this business, I truly don't) and he slapped 'Taker, again, you could see it "Goddamn you, finish the job!"
And 'Taker Tombstoned him again and it was over and the Streak was intact and I bawled like a baby. I don't know if it was relief or being sad to see Shawn's career end, although this was obviously how he wanted to go out.
No sooner had I started getting myself under control than 'Taker was going over to Shawn, telling him he was a tough sonofabitch, and showing such sportsmanship. And then they hugged and I was off again.
Kudos to both of them for something amazing.
